Storing and Displaying Anchor Charts

To keep the anchor charts that I have been teaching out on display I have added a space in the back of my classroom to display them.  I have hot glued clothes pins to the wall so I can easily clip them up and change them out to keep them on display.

Since I have started to make more and more anchor charts I had to think of a way to store them. I have used hooks and hangers to hang them up.  I also printed out labels to easily find the charts I am looking for.

Earth Day

This week's unit was all about Earth Day and how we can take care of the Earth!

Here are some pictures of the anchor charts I made and used this week for my Earth Day unit.

On this chart we brainstormed as a class and wrote down different ways we can take care of the Earth.

When making the anchor charts I use in my classroom I always make them ahead of time. I will create the charts, print and attach graphics, color them, and then finally laminate them.  By laminating the charts this allows me to reuse them year after year.  During my lessons I use an Expo marker to write on the charts so the writing can easily be erased.

Here are some of the activities we did this week for our Earth Day unit!

Poetry Activity:
After reading the poem Green Giant by Jack Prelutsky my students drew pictures of what they thought the green giant looked liked based on the descriptions in the poem.

 Craft Activity:
Using small paper plates and blue and green tissue paper my students made a picture of the Earth to go along with the Earth Day poem.

The Earth Day poem says:

Everyday is Earth Day,
if it's cold or wet or hot,
Pitch in to save the planet.
It's the only one we've got!

Monthly Newsletters

At the beginning of each month I send home a monthly newsletter to my parents.  The newsletter keeps my parents informed on what we have been learning in class, upcoming important dates, what to keep working on at home with your child, and various updates and information.  I really like to make a detailed list of the skills we have been learning in class.  That way parents have a better idea on what their child should know and when.  It really comes in handy when parents are helping their child read each night.  They know what phonics skills have been taught and can really help their child look for chunks in the words they don’t know and sound them out.  Below is an example of what my newsletter looks like each month.
